Pride Is Not a Virtue: A Loving Warning to a Wayward Generation

By Chaz Evanson Servant of Christ, Defender of Truth, and Candidate for Governor of Colorado

“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6, NKJV

In an age where pride is paraded as a virtue, we must speak the truth in love: Pride is not a virtue. It is not noble. It is not courageous. It is not liberating. It is, according to Scripture, a sin and one that leads to destruction.

From the Garden of Eden to the Tower of Babel, from Pharaoh’s hardened heart to the fall of Babylon, pride has always been the beginning of man’s downfall. It was pride that caused Satan to be cast from Heaven. It was pride that brought nations to ruin. And it is pride, unchecked, celebrated, and weaponized, that now threatens to bring judgment upon our own land.

Our culture confuses pride with identity, self-worth, or even love. But let us not be deceived. Biblical love is humble. Biblical virtue is meek. True identity is found not in self-exaltation, but in surrender to the One who made us.

“When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.”  Proverbs 11:2

America was not built by the proud. It was built by the humble, the self-governing, and the God-fearing. Our Founders bent their knees in prayer, not in boastful defiance. They signed their names to the Declaration of Independence with trembling hearts, entrusting their cause to the Providence of Almighty God, not to the passions of prideful men.

Now, in this hour of moral confusion, political arrogance, and spiritual rebellion, we are called to remember Pride is not a fruit of the Spirit. It is a seed of rebellion.

“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18

Let us be clear: God does not bless a proud nation. He judges it. He brings it low so that it might repent. If we love our country, we must confront the idol of pride. We must call our children, our churches, our leaders, and ourselves back to humility.

To those who mock this message as intolerant or hateful know this: There is no hatred in warning a man that his house is on fire. There is no cruelty in pleading with a lost soul to turn before the cliff’s edge. Love tells the truth. And the truth is this: God resists the proud. But there is hope. There is mercy. There is grace for the humble.

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

We need healing. We need revival. But it will not come through marches of pride, it will come through rivers of repentance.

To my fellow Americans: Lay down the banner of pride. Lift up the cross of Christ. Kneel, not in defiance, but in reverence. Let humility, not hubris, define this generation. For only then will we see freedom restored, truth revived, and the blessing of God once more upon our land.
