Pillar 1. RESTORE: Reclaiming Colorado’s Godly Heritage and Constitutional Foundations

By Chaz Evanson, Candidate for Governor of Colorado

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Psalm 11:3

The first and most urgent pillar of our campaign to restore Colorado is RESTORE; to recover what has been lost, to rebuild what has been torn down, and to return to the ancient paths that made this state and this nation strong, free, and enduring. We are not starting from scratch. We are returning to truth.

A Call to Remember. Before we can reform policy or protect liberty, we must first remember who we are. Colorado, like America itself, was not founded on tyranny, moral confusion, or godless governance. It was forged by pioneers, preachers, veterans, and visionaries, men and women who feared God, cherished freedom, and understood that virtue is the foundation of self-government.

Our Founders declared unequivocally that our rights come from our Creator, not from government. The Declaration of Independence opens with the recognition of “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God,” and affirms that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.” That truth is our starting point.

But in recent decades, we have allowed that foundation to erode. Government has become unmoored from moral truth. Education has become hostile to faith and history. Bureaucrats now trample parental rights. Public institutions mock virtue and elevate vice. And many of our elected leaders have forgotten that they are servants, not rulers.

To restore Colorado, we must begin by restoring truth, moral truth, historical truth, and constitutional truth.

Restoring Moral and Spiritual Foundations. No civilization can survive moral collapse. The Founders knew this. John Adams warned: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” If we want freedom, we must first return to virtue. That starts with honoring the source of our liberty, Almighty God.

We must once again acknowledge that government is not ultimate, God is. Human laws must be subordinate to divine law, not in theocratic domination, but in moral humility. As Governor, I will boldly defend the free exercise of religion, protect the right to life, uphold the sanctity of the family, and ensure that government never becomes an idol.

We must also empower churches, families, and communities to take their rightful role in shaping a culture of virtue. Government cannot save us, but godly leadership can create space for righteousness to flourish.

Restoring Constitutional Governance. A government that no longer obeys its own Constitution is a government in rebellion against the people. Restoration means returning to first principles, limited government, separation of powers, the rule of law, and the protection of God-given rights.

As Governor, I will:

  • Defend the Bill of Rights especially freedom of speech, religion, assembly, and the right to bear arms. These are not outdated ideas; they are the lifelines of liberty.

  • Reject unconstitutional mandates including any that infringe on medical freedom, parental rights, or the right to worship freely.

  • Protect Colorado’s sovereignty against federal overreach and globalist policies that undermine our independence.

  • Reassert the balance of power between state and federal authority, as envisioned by our Founders in the Tenth Amendment.

Restoration also means transparency and accountability. I will work to dismantle corrupt bureaucracies, expose cronyism, and return decision-making power to local communities and the people, where it belongs.

Restoring Our History and Identity. Colorado’s story is one of freedom and grit from frontier homesteaders and ranchers to Native heritage and constitutional pioneers. But today, our children are being taught to despise our past, to view faith with contempt, and to doubt the very principles that made this state prosper.

We must restore the teaching of true American history, not the revisionist poison of modern ideology, but the real stories of courage, sacrifice, and faith that define us.

As Governor, I will:

  • Reinforce civic education rooted in the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution.

  • Support school choice and parental control, so families can educate their children according to their values and beliefs.

  • Encourage the teaching of Western heritage, biblical literacy, and foundational virtues in public and private institutions alike.

Freedom depends on memory. A people who forget their story will forfeit their future.

Restoring the Role of the Citizen. The American experiment was never designed to be run by distant elites or unelected agencies. It was designed to be governed by the people. Restoration means inviting Coloradans back into the role of self-governance. That means engaging in town halls, holding leaders accountable, voting with wisdom, and participating in civic life.

It also means calling men and women of courage and conviction to rise, not just in politics, but in business, media, education, law, the pulpit, and the home. Restoration is not just a government task; it is a citizen mandate.

Our Roadmap Forward. The Restore pillar is not about nostalgia, it’s about renewal. We do not seek to live in the past, but to revive the principles that made freedom possible in the first place.

  • Faith. Without God, there is no liberty.

  • Truth. Without truth, there is no justice.

  • Virtue. Without virtue, there is no peace.

  • Law. Without law, there is only tyranny.

The time for lukewarm leadership is over. The time for compromise with corruption is past. It’s time to restore what the enemy has stolen.

A Final Word: We Were Made for This. I do not believe the decline of our state is inevitable. I believe in a God who redeems. I believe in a people who still remember how to fight for what is right. And I believe that if we humble ourselves, turn from wickedness, and stand boldly for truth, Colorado can be restored.

Let the restoration begin with us.

“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” Jeremiah 6:16
